My name is Lou and I proudly own and operate Knight Blooms from my own home based ‘floral oasis’. Living in the beautiful Melbourne Bayside village of Black Rock, opposite the stunning Half Moon Bay, I am constantly inspired by my surroundings when it comes to my floral arrangements.
My love of flowers started young, through my mother Kay, whose garden in her Mt Eliza home was a beauty to behold. Of course, with there being many beautiful gardens on the big blocks in Mt Eliza, I fondly remember ‘borrowing’ flowers from many of these gardens to take home to my ‘room in the attic’.
I was lucky to have my mother and future mother in law Marlene, who had two florist shops on the Mornington Peninsula, to help start me on my retail floristry journey at an early age. In fact, I still sometimes calls on ‘Marls’ for support and help on large projects.
I specialise in providing the personal touch when it comes to my floral arrangements. My style is natural and romantic with a hint of boho and I even sometimes use flowers and herbs from my own garden. I take delight in combining the unusual with more common flowers and focus on textural variance. This results in bespoke floral arrangements for each and every client.
Many of my floral skills were learnt through corporate retails stores – including being a director of Select Flowers (a shopping centre based group of five stores). However, this didn’t allow me the time to spend with my clients to truly understand their needs. I consider it a privilege be part of a client’s special occasion. That’s why I now love being able to take the time to truly understand their needs so I can achieve the best results possible.
